Elected councillors representing the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) within the Freetown City Council have formally nominated an Acting Mayor. This appointment is said to be intended to provide administrative oversight for the city during the absence of the substantive Mayor, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr.
This move follows a continued boycott of governance activities by the All Peoples Congress (APC), a situation that has significantly impacted the Council's operational capacity.
SLPP National Publicity Secretary, Moses Mambu, confirmed that the nominee will be presented to both party leadership and the national government for formal ratification. Mr. Mambu emphasized that the interim appointee is tasked with maintaining essential service delivery and ensuring administrative continuity until the substantive Mayor resumes her duties.
Specific details concerning the identity of the nominee and the projected duration of this interim arrangement remain confidential at this time.
According to sources of SKB, no official correspondence was made to the All People's Congress Party or the Mayor herself, it is possible to be done, given no representative from the APC to object to it.
