The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) issued an urgent warning to the public on Sunday regarding fraudulent individuals impersonating its National Chairman, Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa, in an effort to extort funds and solicit political favors.
According to an official statement from the ruling party, leadership received multiple reports of unidentified individuals contacting citizens via telephone calls and digital messaging platforms.
The perpetrators have reportedly been falsely presenting themselves as the chairman or representatives of his office.
Party officials emphasized that Chairman Songa does not solicit financial assistance, personal favors, or monetary contributions through informal phone calls or direct messages.
The SLPP advised party members and the general public to exercise vigilance, disregard any unsolicited demands for financial transactions, and immediately report suspicious communications to law enforcement authorities or designated party channels.
An official investigation into the origin of the fraudulent communications remains ongoing.
