SLPP Orders Musa Tarawally to Cease Flagbearer Claims
The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has instructed Alhaji Musa Tarawally to immediately stop portraying himself as a party member or as a contender for the SLPP flagbearership.
In an official letter dated September 17, 2026, SLPP National Chairman Jimmy Batilo Songa notified Tarawally of the directive following inquiries into his political affiliation.
The decision follows clarification from the Citizens Democratic Party (CDP). On September 3, the CDP National Secretary General confirmed to the SLPP that Tarawally remains an active member of the CDP, under whose ticket he ran during the 2018 Presidential Election.
The CDP noted that Tarawally has not submitted any formal resignation or taken steps to withdraw his membership since joining in 2018.
Citing Article 6(3a) of the SLPP Constitution, Songa ordered Tarawally to immediately cease using the SLPP logo, claiming party membership, or holding himself out as a presidential aspirant for the party.
Additionally, the SLPP Chairman instructed Tarawally to refrain from all communications, publications, or public activities suggesting any official association with the SLPP.
The SLPP announced plans to issue a public press statement detailing its position and offering guidance on future dealings regarding Tarawally.
Copies of the directive were distributed to senior SLPP leadership, the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC), the All Political Parties Association (APPA), and heads of other political parties, with instructions for Tarawally to comply immediately.
