SLPP’s Mambu Outlines Roles Koroma’s to Play After Return
Following former President Ernest Bai Koroma’s return to Sierra Leone, the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has shared its vision for his future contributions to the country and the region.
Speaking to Sarah Kallay Blog, SLPP National Publicity Secretary Moses Mambu welcomed Koroma’s return and expressed hope that the former leader would leverage his experience and stature to support national unity, democracy, and humanitarian efforts.
Mambu outlined key areas where the party would like to see Koroma actively involved:
Peacebuilding: Use his influence to promote national cohesion and serve as a peace ambassador, potentially working with the National Commission for Peace and Cohesion.
Humanitarian work: Launch the Ernest Bai Koroma Foundation to give back to society and support vulnerable Sierra Leoneans.
International engagement: Contribute to election observation and peacebuilding efforts through bodies such as ECOWAS, the UN, the AU, and the Commonwealth.
Governance: Provide expert advice on democracy and peacebuilding in West Africa based on his experience as a former head of state, and engage with President Julius Maada Bio on governance matters.
“These are the kind of roles we would love to see former President Ernest Bai Koroma play,” Mambu emphasized.
Koroma’s arrival on Sunday, September 6, marked the end of a prolonged stay in Nigeria following the discontinuation of criminal proceedings against him in July 2026.
Upon returning, Koroma expressed a strong commitment to peace and national cohesion, signaling his eagerness to support the nation’s growth and guide younger generations.
