SLPP Warns Over 15 Members Face Verification, Letters Coming Soon

The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has warned that more than 15 individuals have been identified with unverified or questionable membership status as the party intensifies its ongoing membership verification exercise.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Moses Sellu Mambu, disclosed that verification notices and letters will soon be issued to individuals whose membership records require further clarification.

Mambu said the exercise forms part of the SLPP’s transition from its previous manual membership system to a digital database aimed at improving the accuracy and credibility of party records.

According to him, a specialised committee established under the leadership of National Chairman Jimmy Batilo Songa is reviewing party membership records, including information on membership registration, payment of dues and relevant financial records.

Mambu explained that the verification process is also being used to establish whether individuals listed as SLPP members meet the party’s constitutional requirements and are in good standing.

One of the cases that has attracted attention is that of Hon. Alhaji Musa Tarawally, whose membership status has become the subject of competing claims.

Mambu said inquiries with the Citizens Democratic Party (CDP), together with reviews of Electoral Commission records, raised discrepancies concerning Tarawally’s membership status and payment of party dues.

Tarawally, however, has disputed the claims, maintaining that he resigned from the CDP in 2018. Four CDP regional chairmen have also publicly supported his position, stating that he ceased to be a member of the party following his resignation.

Mambu said the broader verification exercise is intended to enforce the SLPP’s constitutional provisions on dual party membership and ensure that only properly verified members are recognised within the party’s structures.

He added that the issuance of letters to individuals whose membership status remains unverified will form part of the next phase of the exercise as the party continues its transition to a digital membership database.
