The Sierra Leone Teachers Union (SLTU) has formally petitioned Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, requesting immediate executive intervention to address the protracted delays in the disbursement of school fees subsidies.
In correspondence dated May 7, 2026, the Union referenced the September 2025 resolution of industrial action, which explicitly mandated the settlement of outstanding subsidies for the 2024/2025 academic year and the first term of the 2025/2026 cycle.
Despite the mediation provided by the Vice President's office, the Union reports that subsidies for the second and third terms remain unpaid, contrary to commitments made by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education.
The SLTU further highlighted a cessation of activity within the Joint Committee established to resolve these administrative concerns, noting that no sessions have convened since the inaugural meeting.
This lack of progress, combined with the current progression into the third academic term, has resulted in significant resource constraints for educational institutions, threatening the efficacy of teaching and learning activities nationwide.
The Union concluded its appeal by emphasizing the urgency of prompt financial reconciliation to ensure the stability of the national education system.
Copies of this formal notice have been distributed to the relevant ministries, the Teaching Service Commission, and the Sierra Leone Labour Congress.
