Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) has officially completed its nationwide cartographic mapping exercise, marking a key milestone in preparations for the 2026 national census.
The final stage of the exercise involved the mapping of the Presidential Lodge in Freetown, according to a statement from the Office of President Julius Maada Bio.
The nationwide mapping programme, which began in October 2025, was designed to generate accurate geographic data to support the planning and implementation of a credible national census.
The exercise is expected to guide the conduct of the 2026 census and improve the quality of data used for national development planning.
It is also intended to strengthen statistical accuracy, enhance planning systems, and support evidence-based decision-making across government institutions.
The Presidency noted that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to ensure reliable data collection for national development and policy direction.
The completion of the exercise marks the final phase of Sierra Leone’s cartographic mapping programme ahead of the 2026 census.
