Freetown Port Gains International Certification After Audit Assessment

The Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA) has stated that the Freetown Port meets international standards following a recent audit assessment, according to the Authority’s Director of Finance, Andrew Tamba Kpulun.

Speaking on AYV television, Kpulun said the port has undergone a series of reforms aimed at improving efficiency, strengthening operations, and aligning procedures with international best maritime practices.

He explained that the reforms have led to improved organisation within the port, including stricter access control measures designed to restrict entry to only authorised individuals with legitimate business.

“We have made sure that in the port, if you don’t have business there, you won’t enter,” Kpulun said, adding that access is now tightly regulated.

He further noted that the improvements form part of broader efforts to modernise port operations and strengthen security in line with international maritime requirements.

According to him, the port successfully passed an international audit assessment, which he described as a key requirement for compliance with global standards.

said the achievement places the Freetown Port in a stronger competitive position within the sub-region and beyond.

He added that the reforms demonstrate the Authority’s commitment to efficiency, security, and improved service delivery within Sierra Leone’s maritime sector.
