Growing public debate has emerged over the eligibility of Alhaji Mohamed Omodu Kamara, popularly known as Jagaban, to contest as a flagbearer for the All People’s Congress (APC), amid questions surrounding the duration and documentation of his party membership.
Supporters describe Jagaban Kamara as a loyal party member capable of strengthening the APC ahead of future elections. However, critics and political observers have raised concerns about whether he meets the constitutional requirements to contest for the party’s highest position.
At the center of the debate is the fact that Jagaban Kamara’s exact date of APC membership has not been publicly disclosed, and party officials have not released documentation confirming when he was formally registered. Political analysts note that questions of eligibility can only be conclusively resolved by the APC’s internal vetting committee.
According to the APC Constitution, aspirants must be registered party members, be fully paid-up, and have maintained continuous membership for at least five years prior to seeking the flagbearer position.
While Jagaban Kamara is acknowledged as a member, the point of contention is when his membership began. Some political commentators note that during the 2023 election period, when he was rumored to be considering a vice-presidential role, questions arose about his registration status.
Unverified claims circulating on social media allege that efforts may have been made to retroactively regularize his membership. These claims have not been independently confirmed by the APC Secretariat or any official party organ.
The controversy gained further attention following a strongly worded opinion article published on 1 January 2026 by columnist Sylvester Kamara, which questioned Jagaban Kamara’s claims of long-standing loyalty and called for documentary proof of continuous membership. The article reflects the author’s personal views and has not been adopted as official party policy.
Political observers caution that opinion pieces and online speculation should not be mistaken for formal party decisions. As of now, the APC leadership has made no public declaration confirming or rejecting Jagaban Kamara’s eligibility, and no disqualification process has been announced.
Analysts emphasize that until the APC’s vetting and verification processes are completed, all aspirants remain subject to internal party procedures. Premature conclusions, they warn, could deepen divisions and fuel misinformation.
For now, Jagaban Kamara’s status remains unresolved, with party members and the wider public awaiting clarity from the APC’s constitutional bodies.
