Surveyor, Civil Engineer, and Businessman Arrested for Drug Offenses at Sahara Hotel in Makeni

Janet Mariama Kamara, a surveyor; Thaimu Kargbo, a civil engineer; and Abu Bakarr Conteh, a businessman, appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown, facing two counts of drug-related offenses.

The charges allege possession of a prohibited drug without lawful authority, contrary to section 8(a) of the National Drug Control Act 2008, and dealing in a prohibited drug without lawful authority, in violation of section 7(c) of the same Act.

The defendants were arrested on October 4, 2025, at Sahara Hotel in Makeni, Northern Province, where they were found in possession of thirty-seven half-filled polythene bags containing loose Kush.

When the charges were read, no plea was entered because the matter is before the court for a preliminary investigation.

The prosecution, led by A.B.N Taylor Kamara Esq., requested a short adjournment to prepare evidence and serve the defense. The defense, represented by Z. Denkeh Esq., applied for bail, arguing that the defendants are Sierra Leonean residents with reliable sureties willing to go into recognizance. They also assured the court that the defendants would be available for all court dates.

Magistrate Jah, citing the seriousness of the charges, refused bail and remanded the defendants to the male and female correctional facilities in Freetown.

The case was adjourned to November 6, 2025.
