A Waterloo man is in police custody after an alleged attempted rape in Falaba District led to a startling confession regarding the use of traditional "charms" to facilitate sexual assaults.

The suspect, identified as Abdulai Conteh, was apprehended by local residents who reportedly caught him in the act. Following his capture, a video surfaced showing Conteh claiming that a traditional healer had provided him with ritual items—including a white cloth and plastic materials—which he believed would render him invisible to detection and prevent his victims from screaming.

Community leaders expressed shock as Conteh reportedly admitted to a string of similar offenses in the Manara and Madina communities. These disclosures have prompted a wider investigation by the Sierra Leone Police into whether a broader pattern of serial sexual violence exists across these regions.

"We are demanding justice not just against the perpetrator, but also an investigation into the healer who reportedly sanctioned these criminal acts," stated one community representative.

The incident has reignited local debates regarding the intersection of traditional beliefs and criminal behavior, with authorities firmly rejecting ritualistic justifications for gender-based violence.

Police officials have urged the public to remain vigilant and continue reporting cases of sexual assault through formal channels, emphasizing that no cultural or traditional practice excuses the violation of women and girls. 

Conteh remains in custody pending formal charges as investigators work to verify his claims of prior attacks.
