U.S.-Sierra Leone Partnership Powers National Development Strategy

Vice President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh recently underscored the robust and enduring partnership between the Republic of Sierra Leone and the United States of America. This statement was delivered during the "Freedom 250" commemorative event in Freetown, celebrating the 250th anniversary of American independence.

The proceedings, convened by the Millennium Challenge Account Sierra Leone, served as a forum for diplomats, senior government officials, and strategic development partners to recognize the historical and ongoing cooperation between the two sovereign nations.

In his address, Vice President Jalloh characterized the bilateral relationship as one predicated on a shared commitment to sustainable development, economic opportunity, and the advancement of democratic institutions.

He further articulated that the provision of reliable and cost-effective energy is a cornerstone of Sierra Leone's national development strategy. Such infrastructure is vital for stimulating industrialization, facilitating job creation, and enhancing the socioeconomic welfare of the citizenry.

The Vice President extended formal commendations to the United States government, the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), and allied development partners for their technical and financial contributions toward the transformation of Sierra Leone's energy sector.

Robinson-Morgan emphasized the strategic significance of the $480 million MCC Compact. This initiative is projected to significantly broaden electricity access, directly benefiting approximately 4.6 million Sierra Leoneans.

They further noted that this substantial investment is designed to enhance the stability of the national power grid, improve service reliability, and foster a conducive environment for private sector investment.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Alhaji Musa Timothy Kabba, affirmed that the partnership reflects a mutual adherence to democratic principles and a collaborative dedication to sustainable growth.

The "Freedom 250" observance concluded by highlighting the escalating cooperation between the two nations, with a renewed focus on energy infrastructure and economic investment as the primary drivers of future prosperity.
