  • Wrestling: Ibrahim Bunduka takes Silver in Greco- Roman African Wrestling Championship

    Sierra Leone has graced the 56 edition of the African Wrestling Championship in Tunis, Tunisia and US based wrestler Ibrahim Bunduka lost the final to Haithem Mahmoud Ahmed Fahmy of Egypt, following a strong fray between them. This loss earned Ibrahim Bunduka the Silver medal in the 60Kg Greco-Roman category. Ibrahim Bunduka's Participation in the African Wrestling Championship has earned him a better chance to get thorough qualification lifeline for International Competitions. The Competition which commenced on the 15th of May lasted until the 21st of May,2023 in Tunis, Tunisia.

  • Rapper Drizilik becomes UBA's Brand Ambassador

    Musician Drizilik has been made a brand Ambassador for Sierra Leone's branch of the United Bank of Africa. The announcement was made at the Bank headquarters yesterday. Speaking, the Acting MD/CEO of UBA Sierra Leone Mohamed Alhajie Samoura remarked that Drizilik's youthful following and his consistency in his pursuits, makes him a good choice for such a partnership of brands and hopes to start marking achievements off this decision. Rapper Drizilik, real name Benjamin Menelik George gleefully thanked those assembled and explained the start of his relationship with the bank, way off in his career in 2016. According to him, this partnership as Brand Ambassador for Leo and NEXTGEN Retail Banking Products ties off perfectly with his personal convictions of the importance of prudent financial decisions to secure one's future. He asserted that his story will resonate with members of his age bracket, as he and the bank collaboratively devise means of enhancing financial literacy to guarantee a successful partnership. The NEXTGEN products are services created for secondary and tertiary students between the youth age bracket of 35, for easier access to money and saving opportunities.

  • Volleyball: Sierra Leone's Ishmail Bangura receives two awards from his Varsity team

    Sierra Leonean Volleyball Star Ishmail Bangura has made a quantum leap in the game of Volleyball at his Goshen College Athletics Program in the United States of America after receiving two awards from the Goshen Mail room. The star who secured a scholarship to study at the Goshen College in the US this year and at the same time pursue his aspirations in Volleyball, has won the hearts of many spectators and players alike whilst Goshen inducted him into their list of starting players. He was given two certificates of award, sent by the NAIA in the United States through the Goshen Athletics Departments. One was for being among the Wolverine–Hoosier Athletic Conference (American first team all conference) and the other for being among the All freshmen Team. For this honor, student-athletes are chosen as the top athletes in their team sport by the opposing coaches. This is initiated by each coach nominating players from their team. A ballot is then sent to all coaches to vote for the best players, but coaches are not allowed to vote for players from their team. Ishmail, 27 , went on to say that " he was elated by the news of his leap in the team. "If I didn't play Volleyball with discipline I wouldn't be on the Goshen Varsity team , If I wasn't on the team , I wouldn't get these awards". Ishmail Bangura's story is an amazing one which he hopes to use to inspire Volleyball enthusiasts back home.

    Club odense in Denmark has announced that for the upcoming season, they have signed Sierra Leonean Mohamed Buya Turay for a two years deal, commencing now until 2025. " We have agreed with the former Allsvenskan Topscorer Mohamed Buya Turay on a two year deal" The forward parted ways with his former Club Malmo FF in Sweden on mutual consent after it proved impossible to relocate his family. It is hoped that this new move would trigger a fresh start for the brilliant forward who was seen in Odense Boldklub colours with beaming smiles as he anticipates a fulfilling season with his new Club.

    Shooting starlets of Sierra Leone will meet neighboring Guinea female Side in the West Africa football Union Under-20 Women's Competition today at the Southern arena , at 4pm following a tense draw on Monday by the WAFU officials. Shooting starlets Head Coach Hassan Mansaray has expressed his desire to give Guinea and others a good run for their money, adding that he is no stranger to the WAFU Competition and given the high stakes for Sierra Leone as hosts in the Second City of Bo, the pressure is evident. Therefore, the needed support from fans in that part of the country cannot be overemphasized. Whilst , Guinea Female Under-20 side perceives the Competition as a clear cut chance to redefine their Country's development trajectory. Interestingly, Guinea Bissau are billed against the Current Powerhouse of African Football Senegal at 7pm today at the same Venue, Bo Southern arena, making it a now frequent location for West African leagues. Senegal had clinched the Maiden edition of the WAFU Women's Zone A Competition in Makeni after beating Mali in the grand finale. As the WAFU Under-20 takes center, many are hoping that the Shooting starlets will stop the massive dominance of Senegal and more importantly set clear pathways towards restoring the faded glory of the Women's game.

  • SLPP has released their 2023-2028 manifesto, a food focused campaign platform

    The Sierra Leone People's party has released a food focused manifesto, as their campaign platform for their term of office for the 2023-2028 duration. The manifesto is titled “The New Direction Agenda: Consolidating the Gains and Accelerating Transformation” . Released yesterday 23rd May, 2023 at the commencement of campaign season ceremony at the Eastern Techinical University in Kenema, it is built on five thematic areas, with a focus on feeding Salone, an initiative to boost Agricultural productivity and ensure food security and inclusive economic growth. Put simply, to increase investment in Agriculture to maximize harvest and export opportunities. The manifesto also promises the nurturing of skills through academic and technical education, youth employment through the youth employment scheme(YES), professionalizing the public service structure and enhancing of technological spaces and tools to boost national competitiveness against global landscapes. On closer look, the manifesto is a continuation of the platforms and activities already mapped out in the 2018 manifesto, expected of an incumbent party. The manifesto highlighted challenges of their first term which included financial difficulties brought on by a crumbling economy characterised by state declared austerity and poverty, a low human capital base, a huge infrastructure deficit of poor road linking access and a broken governance system stemming from corruption. The SLPP highlighted a broad program of tackling corruption, investing in professionalizing institutions and building on education services and personnel. With the President heralding an eighty percent completion of first term manifesto commitments, it remains to be seen how the new manifesto will be received, scrutinized and compared to 2018 manifesto promises against delivery, by fact checkers and political organizations.

    Red Flames basketball Club has defeated Freetown Lakers in the Western Area Basketball Association(WABA) Division One final at the Freetown Amusement Park. The symbolic match was a clear indication that Red Flames and Freetown Lakers Basketball Clubs are in great form at the moment and that intensified during the game final showdown. At the height of the Match , Red flames registered a flying start to the Western Area Basketball Association game 5 final as they captured several points from far out the Freetown Lakers area, with wide range shooting skills visibly demonstrated among many other things. Time out was called intermittently by both sides as the pressure and magnitude of the match were off the scale as they leveled on 32 points. Red Flames took the better of the final as the scoreboard went in their favour by claiming 71:64 points to colourfully kept the flames higher. In his response to the triumph, red flames Coach, Issa Fofana , lauded the impressive performance of his team and also commended Freetown Lakers for their brave show of courage and dedication all throughout the match. On the other hand, Freetown Lakers Coach Alex Sahr , perceived the match as a turning point for his upcoming team and added that the takeaways are enough to strengthen the team for Subsequent Competitions. The Competition provided exposure for players like Emmanuel Kamara of Freetown Lakers and Harun Sesay of Red Flames and that has prompted the Secretary General of WABA David Ngaujah to contemplate on the development strides the association should take to ensure growth of the game across the board. In days and weeks to come Red Flames would be officially crowned as Champions of the WABA Division one.

It is interesting how he remained true to his known sound without staying outdated . The whole album keeps you feeling good in a relaxed way to vibe or dance at will . All of the songs are good for a warm up or lull time at any event but only “come hold me” can be termed as banger level good. The instrumentals for the album is commendable and the beats on the whole album though very similar on most songs, is slightly different to not the album seem as one music. 8.     Thousands of Sierra Leoneans gathered on Sunday 21st May , 2023 for the inauguration of the 6000 seater southern arena in Bo. The unveiling was graced by key dignitaries in the Sporting sector as a way to mark a giant leap forward in the country's football development projections. The Southern arena unveiling had breathtaking performances from the entertainment Ambassador Kao Denero and team as part of his own contributions towards supporting the beautiful game of football. In his address as guest of honor, President Julius Maada Bio lauded the state-of-the-art infrastructure constructed by Babadi Kamara , and noted the impact the Southern arena would create in helping sporting enthusiasts to meet and exceed their aspirations in the game they cherished so well. The owner of the Southern arena, Babadi Kamara pointed out the essence of the arena which is a source of pride personally and nationally can help to restore its footballing image. In the inaugural match, hosts Bo Rangers played well but were unfortunate, as visitors East End Lions defeated Bo Rangers 1-0 after their new signing Ibrahim S. Conteh scored the only goal to earn the killers the prestigious trophy. East End Lions Chairman Junior Navo, commended the team for the historic win and as well as the massive work done by the Chairman of Bo Rangers Babadi Kamara in transforming the game wholeheartedly. Meanwhile, it is hoped that the collaboration would be replicated to see a turning point in the game.

    Kings Empire, an entertainment outfit of leisure hotels and multimedia has gifted their Manager Ibrahim Koroma, known as Prezo Koroma with an Altima car, as a show of appreciation for his work with the business. The car was given to him to make his work easier, says his CEO Mak King. Prezo Koroma who was made manager last year had been with them since 2019, a year after their establishment and has been invaluable in bringing them to the limelight, especially with his connection to the entertainment scene. In working with them, he has helped with the collaboration and partnerships with known events such as the National Social Awards, Miss Curvy Sierra Leone, the Freetown Zonal festival and more, making them a significant player in the entertainment sector. Whilst Prezo Koroma was briefly incarcerated in 2022, his CEO Valentine Mak King had covered his legal fees and kept his salary running until he regained his freedom. According to Mak King, Prezo Koroma had shown himself to be committed and loyal to his business and these rewards, the latest of which is the Nissan car gifted to him are his way of expressing his gratitude to an employee turned family.
