  • Entertainer Prezo Koroma giving Prisoners a second lease on life

    The CEO and Founder of the second chance foundation Ibrahim Koroma known as Prezo Koroma has officially launched his not for profit organization. According to Prezo Koroma, the Second Chance Foundation is an initiative aimed at providing support and opportunities for inmates to reintegrate into society as productive citizens. The Foundation is focused on providing vocational training, education, and mentorship programs to inmates, which will help them acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to secure a job or start a business upon their release. As the saying goes, "we rise by lifting others", he noted is the ethos of the Second Chance Foundation. He added that everyone deserves a second chance, and it's our duty as a society to help those who are willing to turn their lives around. He called on the government, corporate organizations, and well-meaning individuals to support this noble cause in any way they can, pointing out that the success of the Foundation will not only impact the lives of the inmates but also the society at large, as it will help to reduce the rate of recidivism and promote a safer and more prosperous community. Prezo Koroma who spent slightly over eight months at the Male correctional center after he was convicted for riotous conduct in connection to the aftermath of Laj's arrest, used this as his reasoning for providing rehabilitation and second chances to those who have been incarcerated. The foundation believes that everyone deserves a second chance in life, regardless of their past mistakes. The Second Chance Foundation also collaborates with employers and organizations to create job opportunities for former inmates, as they reintegrate into society. The foundation believes that gainful employment is a crucial aspect of rehabilitation, and it is committed to helping former inmates find meaningful work that will allow them to rebuild their lives.

  • Forcians and Young stars male and female prepare for unity volleyball championship

    The Forcians Volleyball Club have organised a one day friendly match at the Wilberforce Volleyball Court, to prepare their players for the unity Volleyball Championship. During the friendly match , Forcians female of Wilberforce Village played against the defending Champions in the Western region Championship Young stars female side. The male teams also took to the court to exhibit their skills in the best of five sets to adequately prepared for the forthcoming Unity Volleyball National Championship slated for Port Loko on the 23rd of April 2023 for twenty nine teams , 14 male and 15 female teams nation-wide The Friendly match created a profound sense of pride and Joy as declared by  players in the National Volleyball team avail themselves to grace the all-important match, spurring aspirating Volleyball players to take the sports Seriously. Speaking to this Medium, Head Coach Ansumana Bangura of Forcians Club, says he was proud of the boys and girls for effort and dedication showed despite  results not favouring his teams , and added that it is never easy to play against a well Experience Young stars side with more five National Championships but noted that it is important to remember that friendly matches like these are opportunities to learn and grow. He stressed that the defeat can now serve as a learning curve ahead of the Unity Volleyball Championship in Port Loko. For the Volleyball players , they are expected to serve as ambassadors of Peace and non-violence , before , during and after the Country's general elections in June as that is the goal of the Volleyball Federation of Sierra Leone as sport is widely perceived as a unifier.

  • Fatima Deborah Conteh of Sierra Leone takes second position in RideAfrique competition in Ghana

    Fatima Conteh of team Ubuntu representing Sierra Leone has taken second position in the third edition of RideAfrique cycling competition in Accra, Ghana. RideAfrique is Ghana's biggest yearly cycling race with a 105km Criterium Challenge , that usually attracts hundreds of Cyclists from across the continent, including Sierra Leone. The yearly festival is aimed at promoting cycling and provide a springboard of opportunities for cyclists who are aiming for top career in the discipline. Team Ubuntu's Leading Cyclist from Sierra Leone Fatima Deborah Conteh had a slender victory against her competitors but was unable to retain her title in the female category during the fifteen laps of the RideAfrique cycling race in Ghana. Speaking to this medium after the race, Fatima Deborah Conteh stated that due to some challenges, she couldn't retain her title but noted that subsequent edition will be thoroughly prepared for as that was what led to her poor run in this year's event. She added that the Second place was no mean feat considering the top notch cyclists she competed against in the race. She encouraged other cyclists back home to take the sport very seriously as exposure matters a lot.

  • East End Lions claim Vital 2-0 Win against Ports Authority

    East End Lions completed their match with Port Authority, incidentally their first match of the second rounds of Premier league yesterday Friday 14th April 2023, with a vital 2-nil goals to beat Ports Authority at the trade Centre. Sulaiman S Kargbo was the hero of the day, scoring two goals and thereby giving East End Lions all three points against the waterfront boys. After the match, Striker Sulaiman S Kargbo admitted to this medium that it was a dream come true for him as he was training really well for this game. On his part, Interim Coach Raymond Hunter expressed huge delight for the win over arch rivals Ports Authority and added that he would continue with the winning ways to grab the giant trophy. Match losers, Ports Authority Trainer Lamin Bangura said the East End Lions Marksman Sulaiman Kargbo capitalized on their weakness in the defensive line and tapped the goals in. Bangura, went on to say that it was a bad day for his team and they conceded two goals in the second half due to a lack of concentration. He suggested to the management of Ports Authority that a few player signings like their rivals East End Lions might better their team.

  • IPC Development Officer Carolin Rickers to visit NPC Sierra Leone

    The international Paralympic committee development officer Carolin Rickers will be visiting the National Paralympic Committee in Sierra Leone between the 17th to 20th April 2023. The visit is to conduct compliance training with the executive board and athletes of the National Paralympic Committee of Sierra Leone, focusing on good administrative structuring, Anti-Doping policies of the IPC and competition requirements. She will also train the membership on funding application techniques and implementation of IPC programs. The In-Country Support program which Carolin will be here to implement was designed by the IPC in 2022 after realizing that most African countries missed out of the Tokyo 2020 games due to lack of funding which prevented them from taking part in qualification events. The overall goal of these trainings is to prepare Africa for the Paris 2024 Games. The IPC intends to give grants to struggling members, depending on the level of commitment of these beneficiaries. She will proceed to Liberia for similar engagement. With a professional background of 20 years’ in developing sports and sport organizations, it is the expressed hope that this meeting will send a strong signal to the IPC that our partners are ready to develop Para sports in the country.

    Former aspirant for Member of Parliament position under the National Grand Coalition party Alhaji Tarawally has made a statement commending Dr. Kandeh Yumkellah’s recent alliance with the Sierra Leone People’s party. Dr. Yumkellah who has received a lukewarm reaction in the wake of his alliance announcement, had stated unity and national cohesion as his reasons for the alliance. Alhaji Tarawally in a post on LinkedIn made a direct message re-emphasizing his admiration and support for Dr. Yumkellah and his “put salone fos” agenda. He pledged his support and reveal plans to return home to the NGC party based on the recent alliance between the NGC and SLPP.

  • First Lady Fatima Bio conferred with a second honorary degree

    First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone has today received a second Doctorate degree at the Fourah Bay College (FBC) campus for the 2021/2022 academic year congregation, among other graduates. The doctorate degree conferred on her was a Honoris Causa, Doctor of Letters for her outstanding contributions to humanity around the globe. Outlining her work, it was mentioned that her commitment to girls’ protection, hygiene and influence on policies are what has earned her this doctorate degree. This is the second doctorate degree conferred on her and this is her first in Sierra Leone. Her first was a degree by the American International University in West Africa based in The Gambia. President of the Republic of Sierra Leone Dr. Julius Maada Bio attended in his capacity as Visitor of the University.

  • Energy ministry says fire incident will cause mild inconveniences for Bo residents

    The ministry of energy in a news circulation released yesterday 13th April 2023, has said that the fire incident at the Bo power Station Bo city, Southern Sierra Leone will create mild inconveniences for residents of Bo City, which the ministry is ensuring necessary technical steps are being taken to restore normal electricity supply within the shortest possible time. The ministry explained that due to coordinated efforts between staff and fire force, the fire was extinguished before much damage occurred to generation and transmission infrastructure. They explained that the actual cause of the outbreak has not been ascertained but primary investigation has informed the belief that it might be due to an attempt to remove an obsolete Man engine from the powerhouse to make way for the installation of a 6MW diesel thermal diesel generator.

  • Sierra Leone handball team prepare for match in Mali

    The Sierra Leone Handball Association say they are preparing for Mali Handball challenge trophy. Speaking, the Treasurer of the Sierra Leone Handball Association Hassan Munu, says that the handing body in Sierra Leone is currently having an intensive training sessions for female players at the Old School training centre ahead of the Handball Challenge Trophy expected to stage in Mali this month. He continued that the players are technically positioned by the technical team to upset teams in Mali and also improve the status of the country in so far as Handball is concerned on the continent. He explained that barring financial difficulties, the team will be present and performing in the challenge, with hopes of very impactful points and experience. Meanwhile, the players who were present during the session at the Old School centre demonstrated their commitment to learn and a spark a winning mentality in the camp. In respect to the question of qualification, Munu revealed to this medium that the competition is Mali is essentially to the Handball team and the nation as a whole.

  • Arch rivals East End Lions and Ports Authority to start off Sierra Leone Premier League Second round

    The Sierra Leone Premier League Board has announced fixtures for the second round of the League commencing on Friday April 14 and rivals East End Lions and Ports Authority will play first at the Trade Centre playing field in the East End of Freetown. Ardent Sierra Leone football supporter aware of the intense rivalry between East End Lions and Ports Authority have increased the momentum, ahead of the Second round League Opener. Ports Authority Head Coach Lamin Bangura who designs the football Culture at Ports Authority, the Waterfront Boys and the Former Sierra Leone International defender says he’ll stop at nothing to win it as a coach. With this challenge, East End Lions Interim Coach Raymond Gerald Hunter, has to prevent the bashing of his former boss Francis “Zappa" Koroma who parted ways with the killers after some difficult moment in the League at the time. Meanwhile, in the West End of Freetown newly promoted Real Republicans will host Old Edwardians at the Angola town field, to spark a wonderful start to the Second round as well on Friday. Francis 'Zappa ' Koroma and Ibrahim Sillah were recently appointed by the Club as Head and Assistant Coaches following the departure of Abdulai Kaloga' Bah.

  • FC Kallon's Female club's Captain Binta Bah graduates from IPAM with First Class Degree

    Female football Captain Binta Bah, for FC Kallon has graduated with first Class Honours Degree in Business Administration from the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM) University of Sierra Leone. Binta Bah was able to strick a balance between footballing & school , placing her among graduands at the FBC's Amphitheatre during the 2022 Convocation. She is now earmarked among the pool of female Footballers who have darkened the corridors of the higher education. Binta explained that navigating between the two goals was not an easy feat, especially during examinations, thinking of the many difficulties and the challenging nature of the various field of study. She encouraged other female footballers not to relent in pursuing their careers , no matter how challenging the situation can be. She noted that it is never too late for women who wish to empower themselves. She recounted that her greatest challenge was allocating training time as a footballer and at the same time attending classes. She thanked her FC Kallon family and other relatives who supported her goal in ensuring she becomes an example for other female footballers in the country.
