The All People’s Congress (APC) has confirmed that businessman and party member Alhaji Mohamed Omodu “Jagaban” Kamara is eligible to contest for the party’s flagbearer position in the forthcoming leadership election.
Speaking on behalf of the party, APC Secretary General Lansana Dumbuya said Jagaban Kamara submitted documents verifying his party membership, which were subsequently cross-checked and confirmed against the APC’s official records.
“After we verified the date through our system, we found it to be correct, and this allows him to move forward,” Dumbuya stated.
He added that the APC’s current constitution supports Kamara’s eligibility to contest. “The new constitution and its rules allow him to contest for the flagbearer position at the congress,” Dumbuya said, noting that while future developments could affect the process, both the verified membership date and existing constitutional provisions presently work in Kamara’s favor.
Jagaban Kamara’s eligibility had previously been the subject of public debate, with concerns raised over the timing and documentation of his party membership. The party’s confirmation now settles the matter for the time being and clears the way for his participation in the APC flagbearer race.
The APC has yet to announce an official timetable for the leadership election, but party members and political observers are increasingly focusing on the list of aspirants expected to formally contest for the position.
