Authorities Intercept Zambian Passenger at Freetown Airport With Suspected Cocaine

Authorities at Freetown International Airport intercepted a Zambian national on Sunday morning after suspected cocaine was discovered in her luggage.


The passenger, identified as Miriam Shamane, traveling on Ethiopian Airlines with Zambian passport number 2Q077540, was stopped at the Hold Baggage Area during routine screening at approximately 08:30 hours. Security officers detected substances believed to be cocaine concealed within her luggage.

A detailed inspection of the luggage was carried out in the presence of officials from the Office of National Security (ONS), Sierra Leone Police, the National Revenue Authority (NRA) Customs Service, the Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA), and Westminster Airport security personnel.



Following the investigation, Shamane, her passport, and the seized substances were handed over to police for further inquiry. Authorities have not disclosed the quantity of the suspected cocaine or whether any formal charges have been filed.
