Concerns Regarding BECE Scheduling and Student Welfare

Alphonso Manley, National Coordinator of the Civil Rights Coalition, has advocated for a review of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) calendar. 

The primary concern is that the current scheduling creates an extended post-examination idle period, which may increase social and health risks for students, particularly young girls.

To mitigate these risks and ensure a more seamless academic transition, it is proposed that the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education consider rescheduling the BECE to earlier months, such as March or April. 

Adjusting the examination timeline would reduce the gap between the conclusion of exams and the commencement of the subsequent academic cycle, thereby improving student protection and administrative efficiency. 

The Ministry has not yet issued a response to these recommendations.
