Foreign Affairs Minister Awards Scholarships to Nine Sierra Leonean Lawyers for LLM Studies in Europe

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Timothy Musa Kabba, has awarded scholarships to nine members of the Sierra Leone Bar Association to pursue Master of Laws (LLM) degrees in Europe, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MOFAIC).

According to reports, all nine successful applicants have had their visas approved and are expected to depart in the coming days to begin their postgraduate studies. The scholarships are designed to support advanced legal education, helping the lawyers build their careers and contribute to the development of Sierra Leone’s legal system.

The initiative aligns with a promise made by Bar Association President, Mrs. Tuma Adama Gento-Kamara, during her campaign, in which she committed to improving access to further education and training for members of the profession as part of the Bar’s broader empowerment and capacity-building plans.

This marks one of the few known instances of direct government support for legal professionals seeking international academic opportunities. While the full list of beneficiaries has not been publicly released, the announcement confirmed the selection of nine lawyers.

The selected lawyers are expected to return to Sierra Leone upon completion of their studies to apply their advanced legal training in the country’s legal sector, strengthening both practice and governance.
