Gender Ministry, PETCO Explore Green Jobs

The Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs and PETCO Ethiopia are exploring potential collaboration to expand green job opportunities for women and girls in Sierra Leone, with a focus on skills development, community engagement, and sustainable economic growth.
The discussions took place on November 3, 2026, when PETCO Ethiopia's Executive Director, Mihiet Teclemarial, paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs, Dr. Isata Mahoi. The engagement centered on how both sides could work together to promote women's economic empowerment through green economy initiatives while supporting environmental sustainability.
A key area of discussion was the potential to equip women and girls with relevant skills and create pathways into green employment, particularly through circular economy activities. Such opportunities could encourage their participation in environmentally sustainable businesses while contributing to economic development within their communities.
Furthermore, the discussions highlighted the importance of community engagement and partnerships in making green economy opportunities more accessible to women and girls.
The engagement reflects the Ministry's interest in strengthening women's participation in emerging economic sectors and expanding their access to skills and livelihood opportunities.
Although no formal agreement or specific programme was announced, the discussions opened the door for further engagement between the Ministry and PETCO Ethiopia on initiatives that connect women's economic empowerment with environmental sustainability.
