Labour Ministry Confirms Exit of Chinese Worker After Factory Assault Allegation

The Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security has confirmed the departure of a Chinese national following the withdrawal of his work permit over an alleged assault involving a factory worker at KK Company in Six Mile, Western Rural District.

In a public notice issued on 23 June 2026, the Ministry stated that the development follows an earlier announcement concerning the withdrawal of the work permit of Mr. Lin Zhang after allegations of assault against a worker, Mr. Algassimu Barrie.

The Ministry said senior officials conducted a follow-up verification exercise to ensure compliance with its directive and to assess actions taken by the company following the incident.

During the exercise, KK Company management presented travel records confirming that Mr. Zhang had already left Sierra Leone. The company also informed officials that he has been permanently banned from returning in connection with its operations.

It further disclosed that disciplinary action had been taken against a local security guard and another worker allegedly involved in the incident.

Officials from the Labour and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) unit also conducted an inspection of the company’s operations, after which an Improvement Notice was issued requiring corrective measures within a specified timeframe.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to protecting workers’ rights, enforcing labour regulations, and ensuring compliance with workplace safety standards across the country.

It added that monitoring and enforcement activities will continue to ensure adherence to directives and uphold labour standards nationwide.
