Moses Mambu Claims APC Has Never Won a Free and Fair Election Against SLPP

The National Publicity Secretary of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Moses Mambu, has said that the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) has never won a free and fair election in Sierra Leone whenever the SLPP remained united.

Speaking in an online TV interview, Mambu made the remarks in reaction to comments by SLPP National Chairman Jimmy Batilo Songa, who had recently urged the President, the Army, Soldiers, and Marshals to “stop the APC in 2028” a statement that drew criticism from the APC and some civil society groups.

Mambu asserted that the APC’s past electoral victories were achieved through fear and intimidation rather than democratic processes.

“The country knows the APC for propaganda. They played the trick in the 2007 elections by threatening Sierra Leoneans with war and instilling fear among voters,” he said, adding that the party is using similar tactics ahead of the 2028 polls.

He further claimed that the APC only succeeded in elections when the SLPP was divided, citing internal rifts in 1961 and 2007 as examples. Mambu also alleged that in 2012, the cancellation of over 477 polling stations contributed to Ernest Bai Koroma’s re-election.

According to Mambu, Chairman Songa’s remarks were meant to motivate SLPP supporters and demonstrate the party’s readiness for future elections, not to incite fear or division.

His comments come as both the SLPP and APC intensify preparations for the 2028 general elections, with political tensions already beginning to surface.
