The Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority (NRA), Jeneba Bangura, has urged Sierra Leoneans to pay their taxes, emphasizing that fulfilling tax obligations is both a civic duty and a right that contributes significantly to national development.
Speaking on Wake Up Sierra Leone on Africa Young Voices (AYV), Bangura explained that tax revenue enables the government to provide essential services and drive the country’s overall progress.
She noted that consistent tax payments allow the government to maintain and improve key public services, including roads, schools, and electricity, stressing the direct link between civic responsibility and national advancement.
“Our goal is to ensure that every citizen pays their fair share of taxes,” she stated. “If everyone contributes, the government will be better positioned to provide improved services and sustain development efforts.”
Bangura acknowledged existing challenges in service delivery but maintained that regular tax contributions remain critical to sustaining ongoing development initiatives and ensuring adequate resources for public programs.
Her remarks form part of the NRA’s broader efforts to strengthen tax compliance and increase public awareness about the importance of revenue mobilization in building a stable and prosperous Sierra Leone.
