President Dr. Julius Maada Bio on Saturday, May 9, 2026, officially broke ground for the construction of the new Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Eastern Regional Headquarters in Kenema City, describing the project as a dedicated facility for grassroots supporters in the region.

The ceremony, which attracted party executives, supporters, and local stakeholders, also featured financial pledges and donations aimed at supporting the construction of the new political complex. During the event, the technical team presented the architectural design and construction plan to President Bio, who commended the SLPP national executive for what he described as the party’s continued growth and organisational strength.

Addressing the gathering, President Bio underscored the SLPP’s role in national development and called on party members to remain united, disciplined, and committed to serving citizens. He described the planned headquarters as a symbol of stronger community engagement and enhanced grassroots mobilisation, while also encouraging continued investment in key infrastructural development.

The SLPP Eastern Regional Headquarters is expected to serve as a central hub for party administration, coordination, and political engagement in the eastern region once completed.

Speaking at the ceremony, SLPP National Chairman Jimmy Batilo Songa and National Publicity Secretary Moses Sellu Mambu praised President Bio’s leadership and vision, noting that the new facility will strengthen the party’s operational capacity. Chairman Songa further stated that the headquarters will play a long-term role in supporting administration, mobilisation, and community outreach activities across the region.

The groundbreaking marks a significant step in the party’s efforts to expand its regional infrastructure and deepen its presence at the grassroots level in Sierra Leone’s eastern region.
