Hon. Musa Tarawally, a flagbearer aspirant of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), has accused First Lady Fatima Maada Bio of fueling attacks and intimidation against party members, raising concerns over her involvement in internal party matters.
Speaking in a video statement, Tarawally said his attention was drawn to social media discussions allegedly orchestrated by a blogger identified as Samura, who he claims acts under the influence and support of the First Lady. According to Tarawally, the blogger has reportedly used social media platforms to insult and defame party aspirants, attributing his actions to the First Lady’s backing.
“The blogger claimed that the First Lady bought him a house and supports his activities, including using social media to insult and defame party aspirants,” Tarawally said. He further alleged that the blogger avoided facing justice in previous incidents because of the First Lady’s alleged intervention.
Tarawally described the situation as damaging to the SLPP’s image and cohesion, particularly at a time when the party is preparing for upcoming elections. “Allowing the impression that individuals act with impunity under the name of the First Lady is unhealthy for the party and the country,” he said.
He called on President Julius Maada Bio to intervene, emphasizing that the First Lady does not hold a constitutional office and should not wield influence to intimidate or target party members. “If you don’t control her, then we will control her in the political space,” Tarawally warned.
The SLPP aspirant also alleged that the blogger had targeted his family, including his mother, in the attacks, describing such actions as unacceptable and beyond the bounds of political engagement. “The First Lady should not be going around with the ambience of power, the police, and army intimidating people or sending vulnerable individuals to insult others,” he added.
Tarawally concluded by emphasizing his commitment to discipline, respect, and professionalism within the SLPP. He said his position is not motivated by personal interest but by concern for party unity and national cohesion, warning that continued defamatory conduct would not be tolerated.
