The National Publicity Secretary of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Moses Mambu, has stated that there is no history of election rigging in Sierra Leone, expressing confidence in the country’s electoral processes.
Speaking on Radio Democracy 98.1 FM, Mambu said the commissioner of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) does not have the authority to manipulate election results. He noted that while electoral disputes are common in many parts of the world, he has not witnessed instances of election rigging in Sierra Leone.
“The ECSL Commissioner does not have the authority to rig elections, and there is no history of election rigging in Sierra Leone,” Mambu said.
Mambu referenced the 2012 general elections, noting that the SLPP had previously raised concerns about the outcome. However, he said the courts addressed the matter, reinforcing the role of legal institutions in resolving electoral disputes.
He further maintained that the SLPP has a strong democratic record and operates within the rule of law. According to him, the party remains committed to due process and constitutional governance.
Mambu’s remarks come amid ongoing discussions about electoral credibility and the role of institutions in ensuring free and fair elections in Sierra Leone.
