SLPP Temporarily Removes Constituency 109 Chairman James Fomba
The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) West Rural District Executive has temporarily stepped aside its Constituency 109 Chairman, James Fomba, pending an independent investigation into issues surrounding two videos circulating on social media.
The decision was communicated to Fomba in a letter dated September 25, 2026, after he responded to a second invitation to appear before the District Executive. He had missed an earlier meeting scheduled for September 23, explaining that he was outside the country due to unavoidable engagements.
According to the District Executive, Fomba expressed willingness to appear but did not provide a specific date for his return or availability, making it difficult to address the matter within a reasonable timeframe.
The District Executive subsequently agreed unanimously to temporarily relieve him of his constituency leadership duties while the investigation is conducted under the oversight of the SLPP Western Region Executive.
During the investigation, members of the Constituency 109 Executive may be nominated to perform the chairman’s duties on an interim basis. The nomination will be made by West Rural District Chairman Charles Yimbo.
The District Executive stressed that the decision is not a final determination on the issues involving Fomba, who will have an opportunity to respond and present his position through the appropriate process.
It also acknowledged an apparent error in Fomba’s response, which was dated September 24, 2028, instead of 2026, describing it as an inadvertent mistake.
The letter, signed by District Secretary Augustine Koroma and District Chairman Charles Yimbo, was copied to the SLPP National Chairman, National Secretary General, Western Region Chairman, District Executive and Constituency 109 Secretary.
