Zainab Sheriff Threatens Legal Action Against APC and PPRC

Zainab Sheriff, a popular entertainer and member of the All People’s Congress (APC), has threatened to take legal action if the party pays the fine imposed on her.

Speaking on Liberty Online TV, Sheriff expressed dissatisfaction with the fine, which the PPRC said was for allegedly making profane and provocative statements during the APC mammoth rally at Attouga Mini Stadium.

“If the APC pays the fine for me, I will take them to court,” Sheriff said, emphasizing that she acted as a Sierra Leonean citizen, not as a party member.

She maintained that her comments reflected concerns on behalf of Sierra Leoneans, particularly regarding what she described as the party’s failure to protect citizens’ votes during past elections. Sheriff accused the PPRC of attempting to intimidate the APC through the fine.

“I am speaking as a Sierra Leonean, not as an APC member,” she added, insisting that any alleged offence should be tested in a court of law.

Sheriff warned the APC leadership against paying the fine on her behalf, stressing that any attempt to settle it without her consent would prompt legal action.

The development comes amid rising tensions between the APC and the PPRC following disciplinary actions against several party officials for statements made at political rallies. Sheriff’s stance has fueled broader discussions about freedom of expression, regulatory authority, and individual autonomy within political parties.

The PPRC has not publicly released detailed evidence of the alleged remarks, and it remains unclear whether the commission will take further action or refer the matter to the judiciary. Sheriff has framed the issue as one of principle, emphasizing that alleged offences should be adjudicated in court rather than settled administratively.
