Musician Abdul Bangura and wife Amy have today revealed that they are expecting their first child after years of marriage. The Musician took to social Media today to reveal pregnancy photos of Amy and to praise her for being amazing at all times including now in her pregnancy. He refered to her as the source of his peace of mind and direction at all time. He exclusively revealed to this medium that they have always wanted a child but were more focused on setting certain things up before expanding the family. He told us that with the purchase of their house late last year, they both felt it was time to start trying for a child and they ended up being lucky. He refrained from disclosing the gender of the child but states that the birth will be soon. This is not his first child but he is excited to be doing it for the first time with the woman he loves and who he says has been his happiness for a long while now

The Sierra Leone Football Association on May 9th and 10th held a ceremony to certify officials who have completed their phases of this year’s Members Association Courses. The first phase was specifically tailored for Assessors and Instructors who had successful concluded their courses and thereby proven that they can act independently according to specifications. These ones were accorded with FIFA certificates of participations to the thrill of all assembled. The second phase of this year’s MA Course, was tailored for Elite Referees who had formerly officiated competitive sports. The ceremony held in Bo, Southern Province had 30 male and female veteran officials selected from across the country. The closing ceremony officiated by SLFA Executive Committee Member Madam Ramatulai Kamara, Acting General Secretary Ing. Mohamed Benson Bawoh and Chairman of the SLFA Referees Committee Alhaji M. A. Sesay, was conducted by FIFA officials An Yan Lim from Mauritius and Mark Mzengo from Malawi. One of the attendees and certificate recipient is Special Advisor to President and Strategic Communications Coordinator Dr. Patrick K. Muana, who’s the current Vice Chairman of the National FIFA referees. He expressed his confidence in the process, saying that the strict adherence to protocols will improve sports to place teams on a global competitive and winning streak.

Comedian Pee Whiz known for making mockery of everyday issues have taken to social media to pen a comedic letter to fellow entertainers but this time on the very important issues of aligning with political parties in Sierra Leone. The comedian started out by acknowledging everyone’s right to political association and how normal such should be. He veered off by reminding that Sierra Leoneans are known for their unforgiving spirit especially for entertainers who ventured to be politically active, even if they are just plying their craft by performing at political events. Pee Whiz reminded that citizens are in the habit of boycotting events of those that have aligned in the past and fellow entertainers are in cohorts and some outright sabotage. He expressed regret that Sierra Leone couldn’t be like other progressive nations such as NIgeria where entertainers were actively campaigning for their parties and some as influencers and have since returned to their normal work as entertainers, still supportive of each other. According to him, with upcoming elections in sight, an inevitable increase in political events will occur but caution should be exercised. Alie Conteh of FC Kallon scored 6 goals in today's match to earn his side an inimitable 6-0 victory against Lamboi FC at the Angola playing field sweeping Lamboi FC in a severe manner. In another development, all roads will be leading to Bo, for the opening of the Southern arena stadium to the public on the 21st of May, 2023. The six thousand seater stadium is expected to host key matches, but limited to FIFA/CAF grade A matches. Football enthusiasts and non-football alike are hoping to witness this opening with a planned five team football gala in the Southern city of Bo.

Former Mayor of Freetown Municipality Madam Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr has made a visit to the families of deceased persons who perished in events of yesterday's May 10th 2023 floods. The affected persons totaled at seven in just a day. Madam Aki-Sawyerr made a stop at Garden community where a man had died as a result of a mudslide and proceeded to Bankole community at Cline town where seven people, a pregnant woman, a man and three children, had died. In a statement issued by her, she lamented the loss of life and committed to continued advocacy on city planning, regulations, all leading to prevention of deforestation. The Former Mayor has however received backlash for this and similar events from the oppositions and others who promote the argument that her work towards cleaning the city and preventing such disasters, have been inadequate to nothing noteworthy. The Mayor is however the first official/recent or current to make a visit to the sites.

More than one thousand athletes will be representing fifty-four (54) countries and over five hundred (500) volunteers and five thousand (5000) spectators are expected to participate in the Second edition of the Africa Beach games at Hammamet in Tunisia. According to the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) , a comprehensive cultural and recreational programme will be developed in parallel with the sports event. Tunisia will host the games from 23 to 30 June 2023 at the Yasmine Hammamet resort. With barely a month to go before the Africa Beach games in Hammamet, Tunisia, the Chefs de Mission were briefed at a preparatory meeting ahead of the Africa Beach games in Tunis on 28th April 2023 on the final set of documents to be used during the games which included the general regulations, the accreditations guide , the accommodation and catering guide of media. The President of (ANOCA) Mustapha Berraf , noted that the Africa beach games would serve as qualifiers for the World Beach games in Indonesia and that they are expecting the highest level of performance from athletes. Recent downpour of rains in the last four days, commencing on Saturday 6th May to 10th May 2023 have claimed the lives of fifteen people across Sierra Leone. Reports have been pouring in today of deaths and building collapses and the National Disaster Management Agency has officially confirmed the occurrences at Bankole, Mile 13 and Koinadugu. The Bankole Community, located near the Dangote cement factory off Fourah Bay Road in Freetown , was hit hard by a devastating flood following several hours of heavy rainfall during the early hours of 10th May 2023. According to local authorities, at least six people, including children, have lost their lives as a result of the flooding. The sudden and intense downpour caused the small stream that runs through residential areas within the community to overflow, leading to immense flooding in the area. The floodwaters rose rapidly, catching many residents off guard and leaving them with little time to escape. Witnesses reported scenes of chaos and confusion as people scrambled to evacuate their homes for safety. Some were swept away by the fast-moving water, while others were trapped under collapsed houses. Emergency services, including the Sierra Leone Ports Authority, Fire service and the police, responded quickly to the disaster. The flooding has caused widespread damage to homes and businesses in the area, with many properties left submerged in water. In an official statement, the NDMA number of deaths stands at fifteen and the injured at fifteen also. Authorities are said to have intervened to clear debris, locate corpses and provide emergency services to affected persons. The tragedy in these communities serve as stark reminders of the urgent need for better, long lasting flood mitigating infrastructures in Sierra Leone. As the country continues to grapple with the impacts of climate change, it is essential that steps are taken to protect vulnerable communities and prevent future disasters.

The Director General of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority Abu Kamara has disclosed to this medium that the increase in power outages is due to structured shedding made necessary by changes in weather and negative human interferences. According to him, power outages and shedding is an unfortunate norm during the dries in Sierra Leone due to reduced water levels of Bumbuna hydro dam, the main supplier of electricity to Freetown and its environs, but with the exponential increased demand for electricity, it is proving difficult to meet these demands. Mr. Kamara explained that this challenge had been handled with the partnership agreement with the Côte d'Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea (CLSG) Electricity Networks Interconnection Project but human interference had made the challenge all the more daunting. Minister Kanja Sesay emphasized to this medium that the human interference mentioned include lack of public cooperation in not harboring neighborhood mayhem causers, electricity theft resulting in loss of revenue amounting to billions of leones monthly, cutting of cables, logging activities, deliberate sabotage and many more. The Director General and Minister however assured that despite these challenges, after the cleaning of the turbines of the Bumbuna hydro dam which is slated to last for eight days, electricity generation will increase to normal and shedding will reduce drastically. These shedding, blackouts and increased power supply is expected to be at normal by the mid may period.

The corpse of an unidentifiable man between the ages of 30-forty five has been discovered in the compound of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority today 10th May 2023. The discovery was made at around 9am after a heavy downpour of rain. According to multiple sources, including officials of the SLRSA, the origin of the body is unknown but given that the deceased body was found close to a drainage passing through the compound, along KIssy road, he could have drifted from anywhere or deposited in the drainage itself. The Ross road police has been alerted and the corpse has been taken to the mortuary to determine cause and identity.

For six days, between 30th July to August 5th 2023, Amsterdam will be the centre of the World Gymnaestrada 2023 and participants as well as spectators from all over the World, including Sierra Leone will be welcomed to the Capital of the Netherlands. In lieu of the above, the Sierra Leone Gymnastics Association has intensified training for gymnasts at their Brookfields training ground to better prepare them for participation at the World Gymnaestrada outing in Amsterdam. The training opening session was combined with music from the national dance troop whilst gymnasts displayed different skills. In her brief statement, the President of the Sierra Leone Gymnastics Association, Hannah Williams, noted the essence of the training and outlined efforts they have made to attract funds for their soon to be World Gymnaestrada Amsterdam. Meanwhile, the training had a proper blend of Male and female gymnasts with unwavering desire to make headway in the sport. Mohame Foday Kandeh , a top gymnast, stressed on their level of preparedness to showcase the true picture of Sierra Leone internationally.
