- Sierra Leonean Basketball star Mohamed Tosh Sesay is making his mark on Asia basket
Nicknamed Medo Tosh, he started playing active basketball in Sierra Leone at the age of 14 before he was earmarked by teams like Young Men Christian Association (YMCA), Young Sports Club (YSC) and later Archibald Red Flames where he won two most valuable player (MVP) recognition. In 2019, Mohamed secured a scholarship to study at the University of Cedu in the Philippines, simultaneously pursuing his aspirations in basketball. Based on these, he was invited to give a talk in a training camp for boys and girls in basketball in 2022, to share his story of stardom to the children and inspire the youngsters with unwavering desire to play basketball someday. In the Philippines, Mohamed Tosh Sesay has won the hearts of many spectators and players alike with his impressive scores in the Zamboanga Valientes in the Asian Basketball League (ABL) Mohamed, 26, told this medium that his goal is to proudly represent Sierra Leone and help his team BGC to claim prestigious honors in the Asia basket. Due to his versatility and unique playing skills, Mohamed was named among the awardees of the second team of the Asia basket for 2023 and he states his pleasure at the opportunity of playing with Former NBA Star Mario Chalmers. Mohamed Tosh Sesay wants to use himself to inspire basketball enthusiasts back home persevere in the sport.
- Sierra Leonean MPs directed to return official vehicles
Members of Parliament of the republic of Sierra Leone have been directed to return their assigned vehicles and official licensed number plates on or before 24th April 2023. This is in lieu of looming dissolution of the fifth session of the fifth parliament of the second republic happening on the 25th April, 2023. The directive was issued by the Clerk of the house to all members of the house of Parliament. The internal memo issued on the 20th April, 2023 however made it a point to note that vehicles on loan to members, are exempted.
- FC Kallon, creating access onto the International stage
Toptier team of the Sierra Leone Premier league, FC Kallon has made known their plans to create access for their players, onto the International stage. Speaking to this medium, owner, Coach and football pioneer Mohamed Kallon revealed that this is a reward for a plan, initiated last year, to prepare players mentally, technically, strategically and physically for out of country engagements. Kallon furthered that he is in possession of a five year agreement with the Torneo di Viareggio(Viareggio tournament) which commenced before CAF, to put players through special training and possibly incorporate them into teams within the league. - Second Chance Foundation Provides Meals to Muslim Inmates during Eid al-Fitr
Earlier today, the Second Chance Foundation, with the support of their generous donors, provided food and drinks to 500 Muslim inmates at the Male Correctional Centre who were observing the holy month of Ramadan. The foundation's gesture was aimed at providing support to the inmates at a joyous moment like this, and to show them that they are not forgotten. Expressing their gratitude, some of the inmates thanked the foundation and its donors for the kind gesture, noting that it has brought some measure of relief to them during this period. In a statement by the foundation, they expressed their profound gratitude to all their donors, including Ceo Val, Daddy Saj, Shocole, Cool Jay, Ellen Keister, Real Boss, Sul Cut, Sarah Kallay, Tity Barrie, Fantacial World, Del Vaquo, Prezo Jesse, KMK, Blazer, Sister Juliet, K-Ryme, Kai Kizzy, Tubah, Abukarr,Sinneh Moiju and many more. Founder of the foundation Ibrahim Koroma known as Prezo Koroma urged other well-meaning individuals and organizations to show similar acts of kindness to those who are less privileged. The second chance foundation also seek for more support as they have many court fines to pay for as well as facilitate for those in need for legal assistance.
- Gifted Ibrahim Kamara of Lamboi FC takes Sierra Leone Premier League by Storm
Ibrahim Kamara of Lamboi FC was an unknown figure in the footballing eco-system, watching other players on the sidelines in the Sierra Leone Premier League, until recently. Like many other promising youngsters, he spent a couple of years in the youthful category of the game with Lungi Rangers but steadily making it onto the country's topflight League. On the promotion of Lamboi Football Club to the Premier League, Kamara made his debut for Lamboi against Bo Rangers , where he made an impressive account of himself. Ibrahim Kamara whose sixteen years old, has carved a niche for himself in the League as the top scorer with ten goals under his belt. - First family bids farewell to gunned down Police personnel ASP Gbanya
His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio and First Lady Madam Fatima Bio have today bade farewell to ASP Mathew Moiwa Gbanya who was gunned down in Makeni, on Saturday 8th April 2023. ASP Gbanya was shot and killed by unknown assailant whilst on errands that day. Until his death, he was OSD regional Coordinator in the North-East region headquarter town of Makeni. Speaking, President Bio lauded the task of policing which cannot be adequately compensated and expressed sadness that it is officials of this work that some people have chosen to target. He condemned anarchists acting against the rule of law and urged the police to investigate, locate and prosecute those involved in Gbanya’s death. President Bio furthered that consoling the widow of Gbanya is an insurmountable task presently but prays for fortitude for her and families of hers and the deceased. He asked the police to be vigilant and professional whilst executing their duties especially in the wake of such incidences ASP Gbanya was then laid to rest at The Police Training School, Hastings.
- Entertainer Zainab Sheriff released on bail
Entertainer and entrepreneur Zainab Sheriff has been granted bail by the police after detention for questioning. She was released this afternoon after her legal team at ILRAJ and Wright and Co. sought for bail. Zainab Sheriff who was arrested in the evening hours of Tuesday, is said to be under investigations for an offense relating to cybersecurity and crime act 2021. She was given a bail condition to present herself at all times on the request of the police. Her invitation for questioning had being made following her live video made on Facebook.
- International Cricket Council Regional Manager Applauds Cricket Sierra Leone Development
The International Cricket Council Regional Manager for Africa Patricia Kambarami has lauded the recent strides of the Sierra Leone Cricket Association far growing the game rapidly among other things. She made this revelation during the officially opening of 360 framework projects aimed at promoting cricket in the Country at the Police Wives Multi purpose hall at Kingtom with members of the media. She added that the International Cricket Council is deeply committed towards supporting Cricket in the West African Nation to meet key Benchmarks like the 2030 target of increasing women's participation in every step of the way. School cricket development was echoed by the International Cricket Council development Officer for Africa Justine Ligyallingi, who also stressed on the importance of taking the sport to schools and also recording the total number of schools that are actively involved in promoting the sport. He also added that they lobby the stakeholders in Sports to create opportunities for Schools to offer Cricket as an extramural activity through the development of coaches and cricket facilities. The Chairman of the Sierra Leone Cricket Association Francis Trevor Samura said the visit of the ICC regional delegation was timely and significant, as it will create a clear pathway for deliberations on realizing the target set-out by the Cricket Governing Body.
- Zainab Sheriff questioned by CID
Entertainer and entrepreneur Zainab Akturk nee. Sheriff has been detained at the Criminal Investigations Department of Sierra Leone for questioning. She was detained since yesterday until this afternoon and it is unclear whether she has been release by the time of publication of this article. Charges had not been filed as at this afternoon. She was detained due to unavailability of her lawyer as at the time of her initial questioning, which made bail impossible yesterday. All these details were obtained from a conversation with Advocaid's official to ascertain the truth of their confirmation on the status of the celebrity. Advocaid had also asked that messages from her known Facebook handle be disregarded as it has also been hacked. A personal friend of Zainab's has also confimed the hacking of the Facebook page. However, no source or official within the CID and Police could confirm her whereabout or charges to be filed (if any) but two confirmed that it might be related to cyber crimes when filed, if at all. A media publication claiming to be from ZedZee multimedia, owned by her, published that she had been denied access to her lawyers. No official release( besides this unverifiable flyer) has been issued. However, the lack of contact information on the flyer and the silence of her or representatives of her from official channels, have raised questipn on the truth of it all or whether this could be a media stunt to kick start her political career.
- International Paralympic Committee empowers Sierra Leone's national Paralympic committee
The International Paralympic Committee in collaboration with the National Paralympic Committee has commenced a three day in country training program for disabled athletes, to promote para-athletes development ahead of major International Competitions. The three days training were held at the Head Office on Howe Street in Freetown. Making her brief opening statement, the International Paralympic Committee development Officer Carolin Rickers shared memories of her seventy years stay in the Country during the right to dream football programme, the Famous Cotton tree and the koidu town in the Eastern district of the country. She added that the three day session would be flexible, as athlete development and funds sourcing are expected to form the basis of her arrangements over the coming days and couple with the exchange of ideas from the participants themselves as a learning curve for onward implementation through the International Olympic Committee. On his part , the President of the National paralympic Committee of Sierra Leone Unisa Deen Kargbo , highlighted some of the key challenges Para athletes are faced with in the pursuit of their aspirations in the lead up to the 2024 Paralympic games in France. Athletes and Coaches will have the opportunity to organize a camping in Ghana as part of the development strides by the NPC in so far as reaching new benchmark in the layer of Paralympic Sports.

The CEO and Founder of the second chance foundation Ibrahim Koroma known as Prezo Koroma has officially launched his not for profit organization. According to Prezo Koroma, the Second Chance Foundation is an initiative aimed at providing support and opportunities for inmates to reintegrate into society as productive citizens. The Foundation is focused on providing vocational training, education, and mentorship programs to inmates, which will help them acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to secure a job or start a business upon their release. As the saying goes, "we rise by lifting others", he noted is the ethos of the Second Chance Foundation. He added that everyone deserves a second chance, and it's our duty as a society to help those who are willing to turn their lives around. He called on the government, corporate organizations, and well-meaning individuals to support this noble cause in any way they can, pointing out that the success of the Foundation will not only impact the lives of the inmates but also the society at large, as it will help to reduce the rate of recidivism and promote a safer and more prosperous community. Prezo Koroma who spent slightly over eight months at the Male correctional center after he was convicted for riotous conduct in connection to the aftermath of Laj's arrest, used this as his reasoning for providing rehabilitation and second chances to those who have been incarcerated. The foundation believes that everyone deserves a second chance in life, regardless of their past mistakes. The Second Chance Foundation also collaborates with employers and organizations to create job opportunities for former inmates, as they reintegrate into society. The foundation believes that gainful employment is a crucial aspect of rehabilitation, and it is committed to helping former inmates find meaningful work that will allow them to rebuild their lives.

The Forcians Volleyball Club have organised a one day friendly match at the Wilberforce Volleyball Court, to prepare their players for the unity Volleyball Championship. During the friendly match , Forcians female of Wilberforce Village played against the defending Champions in the Western region Championship Young stars female side. The male teams also took to the court to exhibit their skills in the best of five sets to adequately prepared for the forthcoming Unity Volleyball National Championship slated for Port Loko on the 23rd of April 2023 for twenty nine teams , 14 male and 15 female teams nation-wide The Friendly match created a profound sense of pride and Joy as declared by players in the National Volleyball team avail themselves to grace the all-important match, spurring aspirating Volleyball players to take the sports Seriously.
