  • SLFA commence the implementation of FIFA's Football For Schools Project

    The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has donated 10,820 footballs to the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) yesterday, July 4, 2023. The donation is part of FIFA's Football for Schools project (F4S), which aims to make football more accessible to both boys and girls around the world by incorporating it into the education system. The SLFA, as a member association of the Football governing Body FIFA, reached out to the MBSSE to discuss how best to implement the F4S project and they decided that it will start off with the distribution of the balls to pre-primary, and junior secondary schools across Sierra Leone. In his brief remarks, the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education Dr. David Monina Sengeh, lauded FIFA and SLFA for their timely, proactive action in developing football in Sierra Leone, as the donation of the footballs will help to promote physical activity and teamwork among children and youth. He continued that these activities can greatly impact on the cognitive and psychosocial development of the children and teens, ultimately improving on their educational life. The F4S project is a valuable initiative that has the potential to make a positive impact on the lives of children and youth in Sierra Leone.

    The best of film that Sierra Leone has to offer have put together a movie, which by all indications promises to be a blockbuster, titled "the scuffle". As suggested by its name, the film set to premiere on 14th July 2023, at the Freetown City Council auditorium, unveils the glaring imbalance of male dominance over society, starting with the ascribing of gender roles and annihilation of any female competition before budding. The movie shows the toxic environment created by experienced goons, unwilling to accommodate change, particularly that of the involvement and deference to women in leadership roles. With a stellar cast including Desmond Finney, Samantha Goodwin, Kerry Barry and Tejan Cole from Sierra Leone with Patience Ozokwor of Nigeria and Kofi Adjorlor of Ghana, it will be hard pressed to turn out any other way than impressive.

  • SLFA Premier League Disciplinary Committee hands down Nle5,000 Fine to East End Lions FC & Keeper

    The Sierra Leone Football Association Premier League Disciplinary and Protests Committee has handed down a fine of five thousand New Leones to East End Lions FC and goalkeeper Francis Koroma. The fine was imposed following two separate incidents that occurred during a match between East End Lions and Bo Rangers on May 27, 2023. In the first incident, which occurred in the 75th minute of the match, three East End Lions players, including Koroma, attempted to remove an injured Bo Rangers player from the field without the referee's permission. The referee, Assistant Referee 2, and Central Referee intervened to resolve the situation. In the second incident, which occurred in the 85th minute, an East End Lions member ran onto the field and dragged an injured Bo Rangers player off the field. The Disciplinary and Protests Committee ruled that the actions of the East End Lions players and member were "unsporting behavior" and "brought the game into disrepute." The Committee also noted that the actions of the East End Lions players "interfered with the match officials' ability to control the match". In addition to the fine, Koroma has been suspended for four matches. East End Lions FC has also been fined five thousand New Leones. The Disciplinary and Protests Committee's decision is in line with the Sierra Leone Football Association's commitment to upholding the integrity of the game. The Committee's actions is meant to send a clear message that unsporting behavior will not be tolerated.

  • Babadi Kamara resigns as Leone Stars team Manager

    Football club owner Babadi Kamara has resigned as Sierra Leone's National team Manager after two years in the role. Kamara, who was appointed in 2021 , helped the Leone Stars during the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon. He made this announcement, in a short statement to the BBC's Sport Correspondent Mohamed Fajah Barrie. Babadi's term as National team Manager saw the participation of Leone Stars in more friendlies and professional competitions, a demand of players, officials and supporters fulfilled. His resignation comes after the final day of the Sierra Leone Football Association Ordinary Congress.

  • Judiciary of Sierra Leone says APC's recent statement was an assault on Judicial Independence

    The Judiciary of Sierra Leone has issued a statement in response to the All People's Congress' position statement issued on 3rd July 2023, in which the court system was labeled as partial, unfair and incapable of delivery justice to the deserved. In the Judiciary's statement, a total of thirty one(31) political cases were filed. Of these, the All People's Congress(APC) party won a total of eighteen whilst the Sierra Leone People’s party(SLPP) won twelve and the National Grand Coalition won none. The courts furthered that contrary to the APC's statement, there were no delays in assigning cases. However, the release states that some cases were incompletely filed and fell out of the line of classification as election petition. They also debunked the matter of assignment of cases specifically for the delivery of captured judgement. This the Judiciary termed as fictitious. They concluded that in anticipation of grievances relating to elections, they had provided twenty-six (26) judges serve in elections offenses and petition court.

  • APC party says they will not contest elections results with current Chief Justice in office

    In the wake of dissatisfaction regarding electioneering activities for the June 24th elections, the All People's Congress party has issued a position paper, stating that they will not be pursuing legal redress to their own raised concerns relating to unfair practices such as vote tampering and lack of transparency in result collation. This decision they wrote, was reached due to a lack of trust in the judicial system. The party statement which alleged a lack of judicial independence, outlined situations of unassigned cases and outstanding matters in the court, which they perceived as deliberate neglect. Consequently, the party calls for the resignation of the Chief Justice, as it is dependent on this, that the party might consider the possibility of a fair dispensation of Justice. The party asserts their decision to abstain therein in governance, in lieu of a court resolution.

  • Grimsby Town Signs Kamil Conteh as a Major catch for League two Club

    Kamil Conteh has joined Grimsby Town of England, on a three-year deal from Middlesbrough. The 20-year-old midfielder was a key player for the Gateshead based club in the National League last season, and he is seen as a major coup for the Mariners. Coach Paul Hurst of Grimsby town stated: "I'm really pleased to have signed Kamil. He was on our wishlist for some time, certainly over the summer and at the end of last season when we watched him a few times. He really impressed us then so he's been an ongoing target for us. He's a good midfield player, he can play off either foot and receives the ball well. He gets around the pitch extremely well and he is a young player that we feel has got so much potential" This transfer is seen as profitable for Kamil's former team, Boro's, who had brought him in for free but now has been taken for an undisclosed fee. Conteh is the latest addition to Hurst's squad as he prepares for the 2023-24 season. The Mariners have also signed John McAtee, Tyrese Fornah, and Ryan Taylor. Hurst is looking to build a team that can challenge for promotion to League One, and he believes Conteh can be a key part of that.

Yates who finished third overall in the race and showed incredible strength and determination throughout the three week event, is said to be Kabia's inspiration to take a hobby, cycling, as a vested second career. Kabia says he was particularly impressed by Yates' ability as an incredible climber who seems to get better at overcoming more difficult challenges. "I'm inspired by his determination and willingness to push himself to the limit" Kabia is now determined to improve from being an amatuer to a top cyclist himself, knowing fully well that his elevation could inspire other young people in Sierra Leone who dream of becoming professional athletes.

  • Bo Rangers Claim Back-to-Back Sierra Leone Premier League Title in 2023

    Football club Bo Rangers has won the Sierra Leone Premier League title in 2023 with a 2-0 win over Wusum Stars on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at the Southern Arena stadium. Abu Komeh scored the first goal in the 72nd minute from the penalty spot, and Suffian Kaloko completed the victory in the 78th Minute. The victory was a culmination of a strong season for Bo Rangers, who finished top of the table with seventy two (72)points and thirty nine(39)goals. The team was led by their star striker, Abu Komeh, who scored a total of sixteen (16) goals in the league. According to reports backed by league statistics, Bo Rangers had the best defense in the league, conceding only ten(10) goals. Congratulations to Bo Rangers on their second consecutive league title, against the odds.

  • Re-elected Mayor Aki-Sawyerr questions percentage Margins of announced results

    Reelected Mayor of the Freetown Municipality Yvonne Denise Aki-Sawyerr has raised questions relating to the percentage margin of the results announced by the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone, declaring her as the winner of the council elections and putting her in office for a second term. In her gratitude message to Freetownians issued on Sunday, immediately after the announcement, Madam Aki-Sawyerr praised the people of Freetown who conferred trust in her leadership by revoting her but declared that the result suggested some amount of tampering. According to her, her assembled team were able to collate results of 85% of Results and Reconciliation forms from polling stations in the Western Urban and they had arrived at the calculations that her win was to be around 66.5%, a fifteen plus(15+%) margin, than her fifty one (51%) percent announced. She remarked that her digits from the aforementioned polling stations will be released in forty-eight(48) hours. Her opponent who was declared the loser, Mohamed Gento Kamara, had released a concession and congratulatory message to Madam Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr on the same day. His message had also boldly printed out accusations of vote tampering, bribing and more, all leading to his loss.

  • First Lady Fatima Bio comments on elections

    First Lady of the Republic Madam Fatima Bio has in a video, made her first verbal comments on the recently concluded Multitiered elections on June 24th, of which her husband President Bio, was declared winner for the Presidential elections. Madam Bio remarked on the relatively peaceful elections, saying it disproves the notion that elections in Africa, tend to be chaotic affairs resembling all out war and prompting the need for international intervention to secure peace. According to her, Sierra Leone went through a tiring time and emerged as one nation. She commended all participants of these elections, especially winners and expressed hope for the establishment of a collaborative working relationship. To the losers, she reminded that given there can only be two outcomes in any election, that of losing or winning, she thank them for putting country forward, naming especially the Mayoral candidate of the Freetown Municipality, Mohamed Gento Kamara for conceding the elections.   • Young athlete hunts for equipment to train for Olympic run

    Long-distance runner Abubakarr Turay, determined to represent Sierra Leone in the upcoming Olympic Games, is facing challenges in obtaining equipment to aid his training. Turay, who is 23 years old, grew up in a small village in Sierra Leone and started running at a young age, showing promise. However, he has faced many challenges in his pursuit of athletics greatness, specifically logistics of it. Turay is faced with the challenge of proper training facilities and equipment and is on the hunt for a sponsor to eliminate his current pattern of training on dirt roads, on bare feet. Despite these challenges, Turay says he has never given up on his dream of competing in the Olympics. He has won several national championships in long-distance running in Sierra Leone, hence his confidence that he can qualify for the Olympics. Turay's is hoping to inspire others by achieving his own dreams by sheer hard work and dedication.
